Newborn Torticollis

Have you recently noticed that your newborn prefers one side? Maybe they have started to experience a limited range of motion in their  neck as you find them sleeping always turned to the same side?

Believe it or not, they could have torticollis. This condition is a form of prolonged muscle contractions, what medical professionals call dystonia, and it can produce a lot of pain.  If not corrected, it can also create a condition called, Plagiocephaly.  This is where a portion of their head becomes flattened from constant repetitive pressure in the same location.  Helmet therapy is often a way to correct this condition.

This involuntary muscle contraction can be caused by genetic factors or from damage to Their nervous system. Anyone can experience it, including babies. Newborns delivered using forceps or a vacuum are prone to developing infant torticollis, which can affect breastfeeding or head movement.

A chiropractor that specializes and is certified in prenatal and pediatric care can help relieve your symptoms by correcting the underlying causes of torticollis. They should perform a thorough evaluation and then deliver the highest-quality chiropractic care to treat thier pain and expand babys range of motion again.
